The Indiana Vision 2025 economic development plan has benefitted from a rhythm of biennial 50-state Report Cards and forums to discuss the important results. And while that beat will continue next year, we also heard the calls for additional review and analysis.
Thus, we have Indiana Vision 2025: 2020 Snapshot. It’s approximately half the metrics of the full Report Card, and it’s a focus on our Midwest neighbors and five competitor states – Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee and Utah. We also provide some data for Indiana’s 12 workforce development regions.
You can view the press release, one-page overview and full document (as well as past Report Cards) here. A two-minute video commentary also captures key highlights.
Among the key messages: Indiana has made improvements, particularly in its business climate, but other states are not standing still. Indiana has some advantages. The other states studied (among those that Indiana competes with most) are competitive, though, with Indiana’s strengths and possess substantial advantages in some of the other categories.
We know there are various workforce training initiatives in place and changing an education culture that has lagged for years will take time. Pointing out Indiana’s shortcomings in credentials, degrees, per capita income and more, however, must continue to take place. Any positive movement cannot be countered by backward steps (see Page 6 of Final Legislative Report).
