The hundreds of thousands of visitors at the Marshall County Blueberry Festival over Labor Day weekend were let in on a little secret – Plymouth is the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Republic Airways and LIFT Academy Community of the Year.

With leadership and residents on board with the city’s slogan, “Where community and possibilities connect,” the city is well-positioned to receive the honor.

Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter says, “We’re always moving forward. We’re always evolving – imagining what’s next. That creates an energy and an environment where people and businesses can thrive.”

The announcement came at a press conference on the opening day of the state’s second largest festival. It was also shared on the marquee of the historic REES Theatre building and on a downtown street banner for all to see.

“It’s a privilege to be in this work with the people of Plymouth, making our community a positive place to live, work and play,” Senter adds.

In addition to the mayor, several community leaders joined Brock Hesler, Indiana Chamber vice president of membership and foundation relations, in helping deliver the news. Among those revealing the honor were Sam Schlosser, president of the Plymouth Foundry; Sue Payne, one of the owners of American Containers; Connie Holzwart, executive director of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce; and Jerry Chavez, president/CEO of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation.

Plymouth will be honored November 7 at the Indiana Chamber’s 30th Annual Awards Dinner, presented by Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield. Read more about the award (in an August 30 press release) and the event.

Activities take place at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis and will also include presentation of three additional awards: Dynamic Leader of the Year, Birch Bayh-Richard Lugar Government Leader of the Year and Ogletree Deakins Business Leader of the Year. The winners of those awards will be announced weekly, beginning on September 10.
