Dixie Chopper

Working in his barn near Greencastle, Indiana in 1980, Dixie Chopper founder Art Evans knew there had to be a better way. The result of his efforts becomes the first zero-turn radius lawn mower built for commercial use that would soon revolutionize the lawn and garden industry.

Dixie Chopper is responsible for many of the outdoor power equipment industry’s “firsts” including stainless steel bodies, quad-loop drive systems, propane fuel, compressed natural gas (CNG), twin-engine lawn mower, four-wheel-drive zero-turn mower and more.

Dixie Chopper is known for unconventional marketing efforts including building a jet-powered lawn mower to prove the standard hydraulics could withstand the power and thrust from a 150 horsepower turbine engine. Years later, the team worked with Orange County Choppers (OCC) to build a custom motorcycle to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary.

Dixie Chopper is now owned by RhinoAg, based out of Gibson City, Illinois, but continues to build “The World’s Fastest Lawn Mower” in Coatesville, Indiana in the original building.
