Health care costs and overall expense control are – even more than usual – top of mind for employers.

The ChamberCare Health Alliance helps make health care more affordable for small businesses. It provides additional savings and wellness benefits for organizations with between two and 50 employees. The program is the latest evolution in a 16-year partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

“This gives smaller businesses an opportunity to participate in a larger, self-funded plan and receive some of the advantages – such as lower insurance rates – that a larger employer might offer,” remarks Brett Hulse, Chamber director of membership strategy.

The Alliance features a MEWA (multiple employer welfare arrangement) so that larger pools of employers can benefit. Indiana employers have access to the Alliance and the MEWA through their Indiana Chamber membership.

“We’re coming up on a year since we introduced the MEWA (the plan is on an October 1 renewal),” Hulse adds. “We anticipate having a large number of new groups join and current companies renew.”

According to Anthem, small businesses could save 20% to 25% on their monthly medical premiums with the ChamberCare Health Alliance plan.

Participants receive access to Anthem’s broad Blue Access PPO network and Essential Rx formulary as well as these offerings:

  • Membership to the Wellness Council of Indiana
  • Discounted rates on dental, vision, life and disability
  • Flexibility in choice of benefit plans
  • Access to Anthem’s health and wellness programs such as 24/7 Nurseline, EAP, telehealth and case management

Sarah Kubon is a business and finance manager at Business System Solutions, a technology provider based in West Lafayette.

“We originally joined the Indiana Chamber in order to participate in the ChamberCare (MEWA) health plan, but we are certainly glad to be part of such a great organization now!” she declares. “Not just for the coronavirus resources (which have been extremely helpful), but the work the Chamber has done and continues to do to support Indiana businesses and the Hoosier economy is so impressive.”
