It didn’t take Mitch Daniels long to implement bold ideas that would increase Purdue University’s profile and student enrollment.

A tuition freeze that started in his first year as school president soon became a popular selling point and is slated for at least a seventh year. The creation of Purdue Global aims to tap into the growing demand for online education, while a new partnership with the city of West Lafayette to develop a work-live-play district could be a game-changer for the entire community.

“Especially for a school as innovative as Purdue, we should be at least as open to new ideas to how we run our own enterprise as we are helping the world to be through our breakthroughs and innovations,” Daniels says.

Daniels will be honored as the Indiana Chamber’s 2018 Ogletree Deakins Business Leader of the Year on November 13 at the organization’s 29th Annual Awards Dinner.

Tables of 10 and individual tickets are available for the event; the keynote speaker is J.D. Vance, author of the New York Times best-seller Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis.
