“The Working Hungry” is a 30-minute film built around the stories of three families, and through them the stories of 700,000 people across the state of Indiana. Most of these are working families, and their hunger is hidden from those around them.

The film will be screened at Kan-Kan Cinema & Brasserie (1258 Windsor St. in Indianapolis) on Wednesday, April 26. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online.

In a time of low unemployment and food abundance, why is this happening – and what can be done? In “The Working Hungry,” viewers will learn about the reality of food insecurity in Indiana, and what more could be done to truly end hunger.

After the film, panelists representing business, nonprofit and hunger relief efforts will speak to the issues raised in the film followed by a community conversation with the audience.

Speakers slated to attend include:

  • The film’s creators:  Dave Miner and Shannon Cagle
  • Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana CEO Fred Glass
  • United Way of Central Indiana President & CEO Fred Payne
  • Mays Chemical Company Vice President of Human Resources Jeanette Jones
