SmartAsset recently published a new study revealing the income needed to “comfortably afford rent for one- and two-bedroom apartments in America’s 25 largest cities.” Indianapolis came in at 24th.

We used affordability guidelines from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which recommends a rent-to-income ratio of less than 30% and considers households who spend more than 30% of their income on rent to be “cost-burdened.”
