Homelessness is hitting home.

On the south side of Indianapolis where I reside, I increasingly see people standing on street medians bearing signs with pleas for compassion.

It’s happening everywhere.

Businesses and community organizations can make a difference by banding together. Many examples of corporate social responsibility (CSR) – the idea that doing the right thing can help deliver positive business results – exist in Indiana. Among them is the sixth annual Cocktails & Crepes for a Cause, a partnership between Nicky Blaine’s Cocktail Lounge and faith-based nonprofit organization Outreach. The event will take place at Nicky Blaine’s (located on Monument Circle) in downtown Indianapolis on July 18 from 5:00-7:30 p.m.

Outreach serves homeless teens and young adults (ages 14 to 24) in Indianapolis. Its mission is to equip and empower at-risk young people to achieve stability and life transformation. Services range from laundry, showers and warm meals to access to resources such as health insurance, employment and housing.

Customers at Cocktails & Crepes for a Cause will receive complimentary signature cocktails, wine or beer and a handcrafted crepe for just $50. Additional partners include 3 Days In Paris, Flat12 Bierwerks, Honing Steel Hospitality, Sysco and Windsor Jewelry. Buy pre-sale tickets and learn more at cocktailsandcrepes.eventbrite.com.

In 2016, BizVoice® magazine featured CSR in a five-part series (check out part one).
