It was quite the gut punch this week and a stark reminder about the fragility of life when news broke on Wednesday that Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-2), two members of her staff and another driver all perished in an automobile accident in Elkhart County.

Walorski had been back home to see constituents and just left a ribbon-cutting in Kosciusko County.

Indiana Chamber President Kevin Brinegar’s statement that afternoon captures the thoughts of our organization:

“I am shocked and very saddened by the sudden passing of Congresswoman Jackie Walorski and her two staffers, Zachery Potts and Emma Thomson. Congresswoman Walorski was such a pleasure to work with – both in her tenure at the Indiana Statehouse and in Congress. She always fought hard for her constituents and was a trusted ally in advocating for policies to better the lives of Hoosiers. The Indiana Chamber sends its sincere condolences to the congresswoman’s family and the families of all lost in the accident.”

Congresswoman Walorski will be sorely missed by her district, delegation and all who had the chance to work with her.

We will pay tribute to her at our annual D.C. Fly-in event next month in Washington D.C.
