(INDIANAPOLIS) — The state’s largest safety and health conference has added a timely session to its agenda on infectious diseases and precautions to take for pandemics like the coronavirus. It’s one of the more than 70 educational sessions available at the 2020 Indiana Safety and Health Conference & Expo, which takes place February 24-26 at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.

In addition to the training to help keep workers safe on the job site, more than 100 exhibitors and sponsors will be showcasing the latest industry products and services to further that important goal.

Along with conference sponsor Gibson, the three-day event is presented by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Central Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals, in partnership with INSafe Indiana and the Coalition for Construction Safety.

The “Miracle on the Hudson” co-pilot Jeff Skiles will be the opening keynote speaker. In 2009, Skiles and the rest of the crew took off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport with 155 passengers; the plane was struck by several Canadian geese and both engines immediately failed. Skiles and Captain Chesley Sullenberger made the decision that it was not possible to return to the airport and safely landed the plane in the only open, flat space available – the Hudson River.

During his address, Skiles will speak on the importance of training at every level of an organization and how a successful, safe outcome is the result of a group effort.

On day three of the conference, the 2020 Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards and the 2020 Everyday Safety Hero Award will be presented during a luncheon
