T.C. Steele State Historic Site hosting annual fundraising event on June 14

NASHVILLE – Artistic visions of T.C. Steele State Historic Site will come to life for visitors to enjoy and even take home during Painting Selma’s Garden.

Happening on June 14 at the historic site, this fourth-annual fundraising event is held in partnership with Indiana Heritage Arts and the Brown County Art Gallery with support from the Brown County Community Foundation.

From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., visitors can watch several Indiana Heritage Arts painters in action as they work “en plein air” (outdoors) to create art inspired by the natural beauty of the site and, in particular, the formal gardens that were once nurtured by Selma Steele, T.C. Steele’s second wife. Admission to the site is free for this daytime event. Artists interested in showcasing their talents to support this fundraising event can walk up on the day of the event to participate or contact Indiana Heritage Arts at 812-988-4609 for additional information.

From 5:30-8 p.m., artists and art lovers alike will come together for a reception and wet paint art sale in the large studio. This year’s reception will kick off with a panel discussion featuring artists C.W. Mundy and Rita Spalding as they highlight their artist residencies at the historic site. Spalding is the first artist since T.C. Steele himself to paint indoors in the House of the Singing Winds. Reception guests will also enjoy food, wine and music while they tour the house and formal gardens and browse the variety of artworks available for sale. A percentage of the commission from art sales will be shared between T.C. Steele State Historic Site, Indiana Heritage Arts and the Brown County Art Gallery Foundation.

The Painting Selma’s Garden reception is open to adults ages 18 and older. Tickets are $45 per person or $10 for participating artists and their guests. Advance reservations are required and can be made at IndianaMuseum.org.
