The Employers’ Forum recently held its annual National Hospital Price Transparency Conference. During the conference, the forum launched a new web site – Sage Transparency.

The web site incorporates public and proprietary data on hospital pricing and quality. Sage allows employers (and anyone, for that matter) to obtain price and quality data for thousands of hospitals in the U.S. There is no charge for use of the service.

Furthermore, Sage uses a variety of resources for its data. Through the dashboard, a user may view an in-depth profile of a single hospital or access quality scores, relative prices (average allowed paid by commercial plans as a percentage of Medicare), payer mix and benchmarks both in Indiana and the nation.

The Chamber will be discussing and viewing the site at our next Health Care Policy Committee meeting.

Mike Ripley is vice president of health care policy & employment law for the Indiana Chamber. He has been with the organization since 2008 and previously was a longtime state legislator in northeast Indiana.
