(INDIANAPOLIS) — A panel of state legislative leaders and Indiana Chamber of Commerce officials will talk top policy issues for the upcoming General Assembly session during the virtual 2021 Indiana Legislative Preview on November 16.

Programming remains the same in this year’s virtual format. The Democrat and Republican caucus leaders will reveal likely agenda items in an hour-long conversation, with attendees having the opportunity to submit questions online in real-time. Prior to the panel’s remarks, the Indiana Chamber will present its pro-jobs, pro-economy policy initiatives for the upcoming session.

The after-lunch event, which runs from 1-2:30 p.m. EST, is free for Indiana Chamber members and has a $49 list price for non-members.

A variety of topics are slated for discussion. Stabilizing the state’s finances, shoring up the depleted unemployment insurance trust fund and legal protection for Hoosier employers that have followed established COVID-19 safety guidelines are all crucial new items related to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, increasing the cigarette tax, adopting a work share program and examining Indiana’s health care costs are all expected to get renewed attention.

“This legislative session will be as important as any in memory. Indiana needs to take steps to reinforce its status as an economic leader in the Midwest and beyond – even building on the great roll the state was on prior to 2020 where possible,” says Indiana Chamber President and CEO Kevin Brinegar.

“That starts with projecting available revenues and enacting the next two-year state budget, a task made enormously more difficult by the unprecedented impacts of COVID-19.

“I have confidence our Legislature will make sound decisions and this preview will likely be the first time we hear some of their plans.”
