(INDIANAPOLIS) — The Indiana Chamber of Commerce honored 125 companies from across the state tonight at the 2019 Best Places to Work in Indiana celebration dinner. Rankings for the organizations were announced in four categories. Taking the top spot:

  • JA Benefits, LLC, a Bedford-based employee benefits company – small category (between 15 and 74 U.S. employees)
  • Moser Consulting, an IT consulting firm on the northeast side of Indianapolis – medium category (between 75 and 249 U.S. employees)
  • Group Management Services, Inc., a PEO (professional employer organization) from Indianapolis – large category (between 250 and 999 U.S. employees)
  • Microsoft, the technology giant with a local office in Indianapolis – major category (1,000 or more U.S. employees)

JA Benefits makes its way to the top spot for the first time, as does Moser Consulting, though both companies have been regular honorees in the Best Places to Work in Indiana program in years’ past.

And it’s two firsts for Group Management Services: the company’s first time on the Best Places to Work list also sees it securing first place. Microsoft, on the other hand, is no stranger to No. 1, having been in the top spot seven of the nine times it has entered in Indiana.

“Congratulations to these top companies for creating and sustaining workplace cultures where employees flourish. By emphasizing personal and professional development, a healthy work-life balance and offering perks and benefits that make an impact in the lives of employees, they demonstrate their dedication to listening to and respecting their employees,” says Indiana Chamber President Kevin Brinegar. “They recognize the significance of valuing their employees and how that positively impacts their business.

“We hear repeatedly from Hoosier employers that having a talented workforce is the most critical issue they face. The 125 companies honored on the Best Places list have made their people the top priority through policies and practices that emphasize attracting, retaining and developing this most valuable resource.”

The companies received the Best Places to Work award of excellence at a dinner held at the Indiana Convention Center and sponsored by Ivy Tech Community College.

Winning companies ranged in employee count (at the time of application) from 15 to more than 1,800. Out-of-state parent companies were eligible to participate if at least 15 full-time employees are in Indiana.

Organizations that have displayed sustained excellence during the program’s history are also awarded Best Places to Work in Indiana Hall of Fame and Pinnacle designations.

Hall of Fame companies are those that have been named a Best Place to Work in Indiana at least 60% of the time in the program’s history. Two companies – Edward Jones and Katz, Sapper & Miller – have made the Best Places to Work list all 14 years of the program.

The Pinnacle designation is reserved for those that have finished first in their category three or more times in a five-year period. The four Pinnacle companies in the program’s history are: Edward Jones, Hollingsworth & Zivitz, P.C., Microsoft and Sikich.

More information about the Best Places to Work companies is available via a special section of the May/June issue of the Indiana Chamber’s BizVoice® magazine, a statewide publication released tonight and accessible online at www.bizvoicemagazine.com. Additionally, companies are recognized through Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.

Additional program partners are the Best Companies Group, HR Indiana SHRM and the Wellness Council of Indiana.

Platinum sponsor is Moser Consulting. Gold sponsor is Elements Financial. Silver sponsors: Comcast; CREA; CLA; Formstack; Human Capital Concepts; Purdue Global; and Smithville. Visibility sponsor: Reid Health.

These top companies in the state were determined through employer reports and comprehensive employee surveys. The Best Companies Group, which handled the selection process, oversees similar programs in 25 other states.

All companies participating in the 2019 Best Places to Work program receive an in-depth evaluation identifying strengths and weaknesses according to their employees, who are surveyed anonymously.

The report is often used in developing or enhancing employee retention and recruitment programs.
