(INDIANAPOLIS) — The Indiana Chamber of Commerce reacts to Governor Holcomb’s remarks in his final State of the State address this evening.

Indiana Chamber President and CEO Vanessa Green Sinders:

“The Indiana Chamber couldn’t be more excited about and in agreement with several of the themes that emerged from the Governor’s remarks: encouraging collaboration from all sectors, embracing change and innovation, and urging the state to keep up the momentum.

“It may be a short session in 2024, but there will be meaningful opportunities for legislators to move the state even further ahead and to increase its competitiveness. Doing so will enable Indiana to rise even higher on the list of best states to do business and be a place where more people want to live, work and come visit.

“The Indiana Chamber looks forward to working with the Governor and state leaders to advance legislation that fulfills those two goals and promotes growth and free enterprise.”

Sinders reflects on a trio of topics from the speech:

Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI)
“It’s impressive the steps Indiana has taken the last few years to ensure that strategic quality of life, place and opportunity initiatives are happening across the state. The Indiana Chamber continues to be a big READI champion and praises the remarkable financial support of the Lilly Endowment that will ensure so many more communities receive funding to accelerate their revitalization for current and future generations.”

Childcare
“Last year was a great first step towards more affordable and accessible childcare. Like the Governor, we are pushing for further action so more parents can enter or re-enter the workforce. Actions like thoughtfully accelerating the state rulemaking process to streamline childcare regulations, expanding support for hard-to-serve areas and ensuring greater data transparency.”

Public Health
“The Indiana Chamber and our Wellness Council of Indiana also believe that health is wealth. The state’s investment in its public health infrastructure through Health First Indiana will lead to a healthier Indiana and ultimately support the state’s ability to attract and retain business.”
