“Fully utilizing our resources” is one of the themes of an Indiana Chamber Foundation-produced energy study that will be released next month.

A unique combination of energy producers and consumers has come together under the Foundation umbrella to support the study. A 25-member Advisory Council is led by Tom Easterday and Ron Christian, retired from Subaru of Indiana Automotive and Vectren, A Centerpoint Energy Company, respectively. Both are former chairmen of the Indiana Chamber board of directors.

London Economics International – an economic, financial and strategic advisory firm specializing in energy and other infrastructure work – is compiling the report.

Energy affordability is certainly important for the most manufacturing-intensive state in the country. But the subjects (and the research in this report) will go much deeper.

“The study will look at Indiana’s overall energy mix,” explains Greg Ellis, Chamber vice president of energy, environment and federal affairs. “It will examine how we arrived where we are, outline cost structures and the state’s regulatory model – leading to an analysis that will assist state policymakers, consumers and energy producers going forward.”

The energy overview continues the work of the Foundation in providing practical public policy research on key areas of interest to Hoosier businesses and consumers. This project is made possible through the support of the following sponsors:

  • Champion: Duke Energy
  • Gold: Vectren, A Centerpoint Energy Company; Indiana Michigan Power
  • Silver: Alliance Resource Partners; ArcelorMittal; CountryMark; Fort Wayne Metals; Haynes International; Indiana American Water; Indiana Electric Cooperatives; Indiana Energy Association; INDIEC (Indiana Industrial Energy Consumers); Metal Technologies; NIPSCO; Subaru of Indiana Automotive; Sunrise Coal; Walmart
  • Bronze: Alcoa Corporation; EDP Renewables; MISO
  • Contributing: Beck’s Hybrids; Plymouth Foundry

The Chamber will share the full report here and in other communications in early November.
