Last month, Gov. Eric Holcomb appointed Wes Bennett, the now former DLGF Commissioner, to the IURC. Known for his trustworthy state partnership and a reputation for thoughtful leadership, Bennett’s transition to the IURC should be well-received. His vast experience in government finance, including his 12 years as the elected clerk-treasurer for the town of Plainfield, equips him with the skills to navigate the complexities of utility regulation. Bennett and IURC Chairman Jim Huston share a longtime friendship and it is expected that he will tackle the sharp learning curve and quickly build his influence at the IURC.
Stepping into Bennett’s shoes as DLGF Commissioner is Daniel Shackle. A former chief of staff and general counsel for the DLGF, Shackle comes with a strong background in legal operations and policy development. As the recent chief legal officer for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), Shackle led the agency’s legal operations, managed litigation matters and oversaw public policy and legislative efforts. His return to the DLGF should bring forth new ideas and strengthen the state-local government relationship.
Governor Holcomb has praised Shackle’s commitment to customer service and effective public policy. In a statement announcing the appointment Holcomb said, “During his time in state government, (Shackle) has proven his commitment to improving the customer experience for Hoosiers through collaboration, purposeful leadership and effective public policy.”
These leadership changes demonstrate Indiana’s dedication to public service improvement and the ongoing drive to ensure the best for Hoosiers. Shackle and Bennett are scheduled to begin their new roles today.
