The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered Juul products to be removed from the U.S. market on Thursday as the agency issued marketing denial orders for its vaping devices and pods.
“As a result, the company must stop selling and distributing these products. In addition, those currently on the U.S. market must be removed, or risk enforcement action,” the FDA reports.
Concerns over genotoxicity and harmful chemicals leaking from e-liquid pods are among reasons for the move.
The Indiana Chamber applauds this order and supported the passage of the state’s first tax on vaping and e-cigarettes in 2021 to prevent young Hoosiers from becoming addicted to both vaping and tobacco products. This was a Chamber policy priority in recent years. Indiana’s health metrics are frankly depressing and the toll smoking/vaping in particular has taken on the workforce and employers’ health care premiums is significant.
