It’s not an exaggeration to say the biggest and most consequential primary election battle ever for the General Assembly is underway. Some 32 incumbents face primary challengers, including 16 committee chairs! This is unprecedented intra-party conflict. In nearly all cases, the primary is the election. The stakes are huge for the business community and will impact efforts to get important, big things done moving forward.

Most of the attention has been focused on the eight GOP senators seeking reelection who voted against redistricting. Each faces a formidable primary challenger backed by President Trump and/or allied groups.

That list includes several pro-business champions such as Senate Appropriations Chair Travis Holdman and Senate Pensions and Labor Chair Linda Rogers.

The Indiana Chamber wasn’t involved in the redistricting issue, but that fight and fallout has created an unprecedented political battlefield threatening pro-business legislators. There are also several very important “open seat” races where no incumbent is running.

The Indiana Chamber’s non-partisan political action program, Indiana Business for Responsive Government (IBRG), has launched its biggest primary election effort in its history, focused on key races and strongly supporting thoughtful, pro-business candidates in select districts.

The challenge is huge, but so is the opportunity. You can help support the election of business champions by contributing to the IBRG PAC today.
