Gleaners Food Bank, the largest hunger relief organization in Indiana and also the operator of a perishable food co-op supporting food banks across nine states, is in urgent need of refrigerated cooler space and warehouse operations support. As Gleaners pursues additional funding and finalizes plans to build out additional cooler and freezer space at its distribution center near the Indianapolis International Airport, it is evaluating temporarily moving the perishable food co-op off-site to donated or leased space during the remainder of the COVID-19 pandemic and construction of its new space.
The site would need to support delivery of 50 +/- semi-loads per month (and growing) of single-item produce, dairy and meat, then cross-dock to mixed semi-loads outbound to regional food banks across the Midwest. Ideally that site would be close enough to the current facility (3737 Waldemere Avenue, Indianapolis) to make operational management convenient. If you believe you can support this critically important mission of feeding hungry Hoosiers in need, please contact Joe Slater at [email protected] or (317) 829-1781.
