The legislative session has concluded, but the Indiana Chamber remains active in seizing opportunities to enhance the state throughout the year and complement actions taken by lawmakers.
First up is the new TPM Academy of Indiana. Indiana’s talent pipeline remains a needed and critical conduit to a thriving future economy. In order to maximize potential in this area, stakeholders around the state are partnering on this new program.
The TPM Academy® is a training developed by the U.S. Chamber Foundation that seeks to enhance partnerships between employers and their talent supply chain partners. The academy will be supported locally by our subsidiary, the Institute for Workforce Excellence, and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
The first cohort of the academy, which begins Monday, includes around 40 individuals from across the state, including representatives from workforce boards, local chambers, educational institutions and more who will embark on the four-month training program.
We understand that workforce development is one of the most important challenges for employers and we hope the academy will foster a community of practice to enhance employer engagement in talent development and align outcomes with other statewide talent development initiatives.
Other key benefits of the academy are to ensure education and training programs meet employer workforce needs through structured input and feedback, plus support for employers in co-creating talent and navigating complex workforce and education systems. Learn more at www.indianachamber.com/TPM.
We also continue to lead on combatting tobacco use and vaping in the state, as smoking contributes to over $6 billion in costs to employers due to absenteeism and healthcare.
Our reimagined Quit Now tool, produced by our Wellness Council of Indiana, is set to launch late June, aligning with the state’s upcoming tobacco tax increase on July 1. This refreshed, easy-to-use platform is designed to help employers support employees in quitting tobacco – an especially timely resource as individuals consider quitting in response to rising costs.
