(INDIANAPOLIS) — Indiana Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Vanessa Green Sinders is calling on state senators to now support and pass House Bill 1417 on tort reform. The legislation, which passed the House today 61-34, brings long overdue clarity to how public nuisance claims can be used and raises the cap on qualified settlement offers – reducing costly litigation gamesmanship and pushing cases toward faster, fairer resolution.

Indiana Chamber President and CEO Vanessa Green Sinders:

“Smart, effective tort reform is about restoring balance and strengthening confidence in the system. House Bill 1417 brings greater clarity, reduces uncertainty and supports employers who operate responsibly. Indiana needs a legal environment that encourages job creation and economic growth, and this bill is an important step in that direction as part of a broader, multi-year effort to keep our economy strong.

“Indiana’s reputation as a business-friendly state must be actively maintained. Other states are competing aggressively for investment, talent and innovation, so we must keep up the momentum. Passing House Bill 1417 sends a strong message that Indiana is committed to competitiveness, stability and long-term economic growth.”
