Indiana is preparing its application for the new Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), a $50 billion federal initiative under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act aimed at improving health outcomes and sustainability in rural America.

The Indiana RHTP Working Group, led by the Family and Social Services Administration and the Department of Health, brings together agency leaders, legislators and rural stakeholders to identify priority investments for the state’s application. The program focuses on preventive and chronic-disease care, workforce development, sustainable access to services and use of innovative technologies.

Indiana’s final application is due November 5. Awards are expected by year end.

With more than one-fifth of Hoosiers living in rural areas, this effort represents a major opportunity to strengthen access, innovation and workforce capacity in Indiana’s rural healthcare system.

Natalie Goodwin is the Indiana Chamber’s vice president of government affairs. She joined the organization in September 2025.
