Employers throughout the state rely on the Indiana Chamber to link them to ways to grow their businesses. Informing, connecting and supporting members takes place via business education events and publications, health care discounts, human resources assistance, visibility opportunities and more.

Jordan Hickam joined the Chamber team in March as membership development manager for northeast Indiana. He’s passionate about building relationships with businesses and maximizing their Chamber investment.

What do you enjoy most about your position at the Chamber?
“Learning about the different industries. Learning more about individuals in the roles I’m calling on and what their perspectives are for Indiana businesses – and for Indiana in general. I enjoy getting to know people I can connect back with and keeping those relationships going. I really like that aspect where it’s not a one-stop sale and you move on; you create relationships.”

There are exciting changes taking place in your personal life. Talk about a few of them.
“I’m getting married on New Year’s Day 2022 and recently bought a house! My fiancé and I are really excited.”

Why is it important to remain informed about – and offer input in – the Chamber’s advocacy efforts.
“Like the saying goes, ‘if you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.’ It’s important to have your say and to get your opinion out there. We give Hoosier businesses a voice. Their input helps drive the advocacy support we provide to make Indiana prosper.”

Have you ever met anyone famous?
“Will Ferrell. My mother’s cousin is best friends with Will and was best man at his wedding. We had a family gathering and Will showed up. He was funny even though he wasn’t trying to be. Everyone was laughing. It was a good time, and he’s a great guy.”

Highlight an example when you’ve felt like you’re making a difference for members.
“I feel like I’m having an impact just by having conversations and, with the nature of COVID, I’ve had longer conversations with these folks. Especially at the beginning of the pandemic because they had questions. They wanted answers. They were uncertain. They were asking: What’s next? What’s the Chamber doing? And we demonstrated what we could do to help going forward.”

If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
“Like every NBA or NFL player, you want to buy mom and dad a house. That would be first on the bucket list for sure.”
