Conversations are special in so many ways. Yes, in their very nature, they convey an exchange of thoughts and ideas at that moment in time. But as we have come to learn, they often possess long-lasting impacts.
Case in point: the IN Chamber Podcast, which begins its fourth season one week from today – more on that in just a moment. There have been 75 (a nice memorable number) conversations to date, with No. 50 (two-thirds on the way to that 75 total) on the list in the summer of 2019 being with futurist Jack Uldrich. The title: “Future is Now … and We All Have to Adapt.” We were talking primarily about technology, but the content, the “numbers game” and our 2020 experiences make one think about broader implications.
It’s time for more lively exchanges, with season four already possessing a strong lineup of secured guests. You will get to know the story of Brian Cuban, one of the keynote speakers at the Indiana Employer Opioid Summit on September 16, in our kickoff episode (September 1). Yes, he is the brother of Indiana University alum and NBA owner Mark Cuban, but Brian’s story is about recovery from a near lifetime of addictive behaviors. He is a leading national advocate on the topic.
We will follow up with a local perspective (September 15) via a similarly inspiring story. Kimberly Lewis will share how prescription opioids began a descent that included a lengthy jail term. More importantly, she will offer how the support of others dramatically changes her life and can do the same for others.
Among other upcoming episodes:
- September 29: Canadian Consul General Joe Comartin discussing the relationships between our state/nation and our neighbors to the north
- October 13: UIndy political science professor Laura Merrifield Wilson and the 2020 election
- October 27: Samantha Johnson-Helms, executive director and principal clarinet, Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra
- Between November 11-24: Conversations with the Chamber’s 2020 Annual Awards winners (including the Ogletree Deakins Business Leader of the Year, Bayh-Lugar Government Leader of the Year and Dynamic Leader of the Year)
All previous episodes are available online. Andrea Butcher (HRD Advisory Group), Elliott Parker (High Alpha Innovation) and Elaine Bedel (Indiana Destination Development Corporation) are among the recent guests with intriguing stories and perspectives.
