Safety in the workplace is not a singular responsibility. Creating safe and healthy workplaces requires numerous people at all levels of an organization. In other words, it’s a team sport.

That fact – and that one of Indianapolis’ most well-loved former Colts is a keynote speaker – lends the 2019 Indiana Safety and Health Conference & Expo to the theme “Huddle Up! For Safety”.

The annual conference – the largest in the state focused on safety and health – will take place February 26-28 at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.

Along with conference sponsor Gibson, the three-day event is presented by the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals and the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with INSafe Indiana and the Coalition for Construction Safety.

Six-time Pro Bowl center and Super Bowl champion Jeff Saturday is back by popular demand to address the current state of safety in football. Saturday will give the opening keynote presentation on February 27.

Two keynote sessions are scheduled for February 28:

  • E. Scott Geller, Ph.D., a senior partner at Safety Performance Solutions, will discuss safety and life lessons from psychological science and the human dynamics of achieving an injury-free workplace. (Dr. Geller previews his keynote speech in this video.)
  • During the Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards luncheon, Regina McMichael, CSP, CET and president of The Learning Factory, will present “The Wife Left Behind: The Making of a Safety Professional.” McMichael will discuss her journey to save just one life as a safety professional after losing her husband when he fell to his death while employed as a roofer. (Hear from McMichael in this short video.)

Also during the luncheon, the annual Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards and the Everyday Safety Hero Awards will be presented to recognize companies and professionals working to keep Hoosier employees safe.

Over the course of three days, more than 70 educational sessions will be offered and over 100 exhibitors will take part.

While the latest best practices in safety and health will again be shared, there are some new offerings to highlight, including an educational track on safety in technology, which can help employers and safety professionals learn how emerging technology may present new safety hazards.

Additionally, a panel on opioid abuse in construction will address how employers can train their workers to recognize substance abuse, as well as the legal implications of substance use on drug testing policies.

Early bird pricing is available through February 1; group discounts are offered. A full agenda and price information is available at www.insafetyconf.com.
