“The Briefing Room” lands at Helium Comedy Club on July 14, pairing veteran comedians and musicians with state senators and a Westfield mayor for one night of civic comedy
INDIANAPOLIS – VentureVets, in partnership with creative nonprofit Pattern, Inc., will host a Veteran Comedy Event: The Briefing Room on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Helium Comedy Club in Indianapolis. The one-night event brings veteran talent and Indiana’s elected leaders onto the same stage for an evening that trades the usual political panel for something rarer: real laughs, real conversation, and a room built around the people who served.
The Briefing Room is built on a simple idea. Veterans know how to lead, perform, and tell the truth, and the public square is better when their voices are in it. The evening hands the microphone to veteran comedians, veteran musicians, and veteran visual artists, then seats Indiana policymakers for a “Between Two Ferns” style interview segment where the questions are sharp and the format is anything but a press conference.
Headlining the comedy is Chris Cline, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. State Senator Andrea Hunley will serve as master of ceremonies. The interview segment features three confirmed Indiana leaders in the hot seat: State Senator Kyle Walker, State Senator Scott Baldwin, and Mayor Scott Willis of Westfield. The night also includes a live musical interlude and a showcase of work from veteran visual artists.
“Veterans have always known how to walk into a room and own it, whether that room is a forward operating base, a job site, or a comedy club,” said Courtney Zaugg, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of VentureVets. “The Briefing Room puts our community center stage and invites the people who represent us to sit down, drop the talking points, and connect. That is how you build trust, and frankly, it is a lot more fun than another rubber-chicken banquet.”
“PATTERN exists to spotlight the creative talent in this state, and the veteran community is full of it,” said Polina Osherov of PATTERN. “Partnering with VentureVets on The Briefing Room lets us put that talent in front of an audience that does not always get to see it.”
The event is presented with the support of founding sponsors Meyer Najem, Veteran Strategies, the Indy Chamber, Associated Builders and Contractors Indiana/Kentucky (ABC), UNITS of Indianapolis, Wilson Law Associates, CJ Smith CPAs, and Launch Fishers. Sponsorship opportunities remain available for businesses that want to stand with Indiana’s veteran community.
