A OneAmerica® tradition of involving its newest employees in community service continued today as 29 summer interns volunteered at the Lilly Boys & Girls Club, 801 S. State Ave., Indianapolis.
Interns invested their time with a variety of hands-on work, including landscaping, interacting with the children and assisting with arts and craft activities. OneAmerica encourages interns to participate in a community service project as part of its corporate commitment to making a lasting impact on the community and its associates.
“The commitment to creating true OneAmerica experiences for interns includes not just interaction with working professionals but also engaging as great stewards in the community,” said Jennifer Pittman, assistant vice president of community affairs for OneAmerica. “Today, the summer interns selected where they wanted to invest volunteer hours, and with that choice are conveying their passion with the cause they are investing in.”
Lilly Boys & Girls Club is one of the organization’s 10 local clubs. Located southeast of Downtown Indianapolis, it provides a safe, educational and positive atmosphere for youth ages 5-18, where they can prosper and reach their full potential.
“OneAmerica and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis have a rich history when it comes to collaborating on volunteer projects,” said LaNisha Clark, director of development and marketing, Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis. “Combined, these interns are contributing a positive impact worth over 100 hours, a priceless gift to our organization.”
The summer intern community service day is one of many volunteer opportunities the organization offers to its associates. For example, the annual Week of Caring in September allows more than 700 OneAmerica associates from across the country to donate over 2,000 hours of time. The Week of Caring is the first weeklong “pay it forward” event of its kind in Central Indiana.
