John Schausten, CPP, director of payroll and HRIS for OneAmerica, has been named the 2020 Payroll Man of the Year by the American Payroll Association (APA) in recognition of his work in the payroll industry. The award was announced by the APA at its Congress Xstream virtual conference, June 2.

“John’s tremendous dedication to the payroll industry is reflected in his accomplishments throughout the past two decades,” said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll Association. “We honor John for his devotion to the payroll profession and for being a leader to his peers.”

Schausten has been a member of the APA since 2000 and has held his Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation since 2002. He has served on the APA’s Board of Advisors, Hotline Referral Service, Social Networking Committee, Strategic Payroll Leadership Task Force Manufacturing Best Practices Subcommittee, and National Speakers Bureau. In 2017, Schausten won the APA Prism Award in recognition of innovative payroll management practices. He received APA’s Meritorious Award in 2019. Locally, he served as the President of the Indianapolis Chapter of APA and received the Indiana Payroll Person of the Year Award in 2011 and 2019.

The annual Payroll Man of the Year award recognizes an outstanding individual from the payroll profession that has a proven history of enhancing the payroll industry through education, networking, and volunteer work. The APA presented the award to Schausten on June 2 during the Opening General Session of its Congress Xstream conference.
