Indiana State Museum’s popular annual event returns Feb. 21-23

INDIANAPOLIS – From serious rockhounds and fossil enthusiasts to those with a casual curiosity about shiny stones, everyone will find something to enjoy as GEOfest returns for its 22nd year to the Indiana State Museum.

This year’s event, sponsored by Irving Materials, Inc., will take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 21-23. Among the museum’s most popular annual events, GEOfest features three days and three floors of crystals, fossils and rocks galore along with family-friendly activities.

Visitors can browse 25 booths of vendors from across the country, selling a variety of items including brilliant gems, giant geodes, mineral specimens, polished stones, jewelry and more.

With hands-on activities throughout the museum, children will enjoy digging into Indiana’s Ice Age past and testing their construction skills at the earthquake simulator. Visitors can also explore the naturalists’ lab and museum galleries to discover sparkling geodes, ancient fossils and geological artifacts, including a real moon rock.

Irving Materials, Inc., will bring their cement truck and help guests make their own trilobite paperweight. Attendees can connect with several local science clubs and other community partners to learn more about geology, paleontology and earth sciences.

GEOfest is free for Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites members and included with regular museum admission, which is $20 for adults, $14 for youth (ages 3-17) and $18 for seniors. Visitors can go to IndianaMuseum.org to learn more and save on admission by purchasing tickets in advance.
