Visitors can enjoy free admission and festivities on June 21
INDIANAPOLIS – Visitors can enjoy a day of free admission and festivities during the Indiana State Museum’s annual Juneteenth celebration on June 21.
Recognized federally on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the effective emancipation of enslaved people in the United States following the Civil War. In honor of this important holiday, admission will be free on June 21 at all Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites locations across the state.
In Indianapolis, the Indiana State Museum will welcome visitors from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., offering a wide variety of local vendors, engaging performances and family-friendly activities centered around the theme “History, Health and the Arts.”
Attendees will have the unique opportunity to chat with a museum curator and get up close with amazing artifacts that share stories of Indiana’s rich past. Dancers, drummers, musicians and more will enhance the vibrant atmosphere with scheduled performances throughout the day.
Children will have a chance to express their creativity through art at a collaborative abstract mural, and families can stretch their bodies and minds with yoga mindfulness sessions. Visitors can browse a variety of vendor booths, and community partners will engage guests in fun activities aimed at promoting health and wellness.
All three floors of the museum will be open for visitors to explore, including seasonal experiences like Amazing Pollinators presented by Corteva Agriscience and Through the Eyes of an Artist: John Wesley Hardrick. Plus, the documentary “Major Taylor: Champion of the Race” will be shown in the museum’s auditorium, providing an inspiring look at the life of one of Indiana’s most notable sports figures.
