INDIANAPOLIS – The National Bank of Indianapolis announced that Doug Talley, Executive Vice President, Chief Banking Officer and Chief Lending Officer, has been promoted to President, effective Aug. 3, 2026, and will join the Board of Directors. Mark E. Bruin will retire as CEO in early 2027 once a new CEO is named.
The transition is part of a new leadership structure established by the Board of Directors, Bruin, and Talley following several months of discussion and in alignment with the Bank’s succession plan.
“Doug is an original employee of The National Bank of Indianapolis and has grown alongside this institution, helped shape it, and proven himself one of the finest bankers and leaders I have had the privilege of working with,” said Greg Maurer, Chair of the Board of Directors. “His work as Chief Banking Officer – driving loan portfolio growth, deepening our client relationships, and representing us in the community through his service on the boards of civic and nonprofit organizations – has been exceptional in every respect. Doug was made for this role. His knowledge of our Bank, our clients, and our community is unmatched, and I could not be more confident in this promotion.”
Talley joined The National Bank of Indianapolis when the Bank was founded in 1993. Since that time, he has served in numerous leadership roles, including Senior Vice President and Chief Client Officer; First Vice President of Corporate Banking; and Executive Vice President, Chief Banking Officer and Chief Lending Officer. In addition to his professional leadership, Talley serves on the boards of directors for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the 500 Festival.
“Being named President of a bank I’ve helped build is the honor of my career. It allows me to focus on what I care about most – leading a team I’ve grown alongside and deepening the client relationships and community ties that have always set the Bank apart. I’m grateful to Mark for the foundation we’re building on, and I’m ready to lead us forward,” said Talley.
With 45 years of banking experience – more than 25 of those at The National Bank of Indianapolis – Bruin has served in a multitude of leadership roles, including Senior Vice President, Senior Vice President and Chief Client Officer, Executive Vice President and Chief Banking Officer, and President & CEO and a member of the Board of Directors. Bruin has also served on a variety of corporate and nonprofit boards, including LYNX Capital Corporation, Noble of Indiana, Premier Capital Corporation and Tindley Accelerated Schools.
“Mark’s legacy at The National Bank of Indianapolis is reflected not just in the numbers, but in the people – the team he recruited, the clients he served, and the trust he earned across Indianapolis over a quarter century. He leaves enormous shoes to fill, and we are honored he will remain fully engaged with leading the Bank until new leadership is in place,” said Maurer. “This unhurried approach allows the Board to take the necessary time to identify a new leader with the experience and values that fit our Bank and who is well-positioned to guide us into the future.”
“Serving The National Bank of Indianapolis for 25 years, the last eight as CEO, has been a privilege and the highlight of my career. Our people are what make the Bank exceptional. Their dedication to serving our clients and the community is inspiring and something I will never take for granted. The future of the Bank is bright, and I know the best is yet to come,” said Bruin.
The Board of Directors has engaged J. Scott Petty at executive search firm Chartwell Partners to lead the search for the Bank’s next CEO.
