KALAMAZOO, MICH. – HECO, Inc. is proud to announce its acquisition of Fife-Pearce Electric Company, a Detroit-based AC & DC electric motor service and repair provider. Effective July 2, 2025, the newly acquired company joins HECO’s 10 electric motor sales and service centers and hubs in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky.

Offering complete industrial motor rebuilds, rewinding, and repair as well as unique offerings in magnetic chuck repair and controls, Fife-Pearce has been family-owned and operated since 1923. It serves major applications within the industrial, automation, and commercial sectors from a 30,197-square-foot facility on the North side of Detroit.

Based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, HECO was founded in 1959 by Terrell Hatfield and is now in its third generation of family ownership and operation. The company specializes in serving the power generation, steel and other metals, chemical processing, pharmaceutical, paper and pulp, wastewater and freshwater, aggregate and cement, coal mining, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and manufacturing industries with motor sales, repairs, and reliability-focused technology and services.

“We are excited to welcome the Fife-Pearce Electric Company team and their valued customers to the HECO family,” said Justin Hatfield, HECO President. “We are deeply grateful to current owner John Fracassa for trusting us to carry his legacy, and that of his late co-owner Brian Couey, forward.”

Together, the two companies provide a collective 168 years of expertise to the industrial motor and reliability industry and beyond. Fife-Pearce’s drive service and sales expertise align closely with services offered at HECO’s existing Metro Detroit, Kalamazoo, West Virginia, and Kentucky service centers, and the company’s unique magnetic chuck services allow HECO to enhance its offerings to existing customers.

The acquisition will also enable HECO to relocate its existing Metro Detroit Service Center at 25575 Glendale Street in Redford to Fife-Pearce’s facility at 20201 Sherwood Street in Detroit. This relocation is expected to be completed in the coming months.

“This partnership is also an opportunity to expand our Metro Detroit Service Center by moving our operations to the Fife-Pearce Electric Company location,” he added. “Fife-Pearce and HECO customers alike will benefit from the increased capacity and expertise we can offer as a result of combining our skills and teams.”

Dave Hazelrigg, HECO’s Metro Detroit Service Center Operations Manager, will oversee the consolidation of the combined Detroit locations. Employees of Fife-Pearce Electric Company will join the existing HECO Metro Detroit team in similar roles.

“Our customers, employees, and the Fife-Pearce legacy are in good hands with HECO,” Fracassa said. “As a family-owned business, their approach to business and customer service, as well as their industrial expertise, makes this partnership a great move for all involved.”

As part of HECO’s continued investment in the greater Detroit area, the company has also selected Detroit’s Fort Pontchartrain hotel as the host venue for this year’s RPM Symposium, taking place Sept. 23–24. The industry-focused event brings together thought leaders and reliability professionals to share insights and innovations in maximizing the reliability of rotating equipment.
