MICHIGAN CITY – Centier Bank recently made a $3,000 donation to Stepping Stone Shelter for Women, La Porte County’s shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Stepping Stone provides free services including crisis lines, intervention, temporary shelter, clothing, food, transitional housing, counseling, support groups, and advocacy.

Stepping Stone Shelter is La Porte County’s sole 24-hour shelter, providing support for domestic violence, sexual assault/trafficking victims through its crisis shelter and the Bridge Transitional Housing Program, transitional housing that includes fully furnished apartments for residents while they pursue permanent housing. The donation will be used to update and repair the shelter.

“We are grateful for the support of Centier Bank in supporting our work with a grant as we work diligently to refresh all aspects of our facilities and operations this year,” expressed Chris Kostbade, Executive Director of Stepping Stone Shelter. “We could not continue to provide the vital and often life and death services we operate without the support of our community and organizations like Centier Bank. Thank you for being a vital part of empowering our community to live without violence.”

Pia Parrott, Centier Bank’s Michigan City Branch Manager, said she is grateful for the partnership with Stepping Stone Shelter.

“Centier Bank is committed to enriching lives in our communities and beyond,” Parrott said. “We are truly grateful to Stepping Stone for providing a reprieve to victims in our community, and we look forward to providing financial education and guidance to residents in the coming year.”
