The FORVIS Foundation has donated $30,000 to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) to support hundreds of families of children awaiting organ transplants.
The gift will fund needed supplies for 300 COTA-logoed backpacks that families keep as “go bags” for the moment when they are notified that an organ is ready for their loved one and they must quickly go to the hospital. Although it’s the message the families have long been waiting to receive, these calls can create a tremendous amount of stress.
The bags help ensure families are ready when the time comes and include items such as toiletries, gift cards, a small inflatable pillow, blanket or throw, and more. A generous COTA supporter funded the bags, but the cost of the supplies was not budgeted. The FORVIS Foundation gift will provide for all of the needed items.

COTA is a Bloomington-based nonprofit organization that helps children and young adults who need a life-saving organ, bone marrow, cord blood, tissue, or stem cell transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. Founded in 1986, it has assisted over 2,200 families with more than $75 million raised since that time. Approximately 200 families per year receive assistance annually through COTA at no cost to them.
