DeVoe School of Business at IWU–National and Global is pleased to announce that its human resources (HR) programs have been awarded Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Academic Alignment.

SHRM Academic Alignment is a designation given to academic programs and professional organizations that prepare learners for careers in HR and align curriculum and talent management with SHRM’s Competency Model.

“Throughout the world, over 500 programs in approximately 425 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates,” said Michael Chase, associate professor and program facilitator for the HR programs offered by DeVoe School of Business. “Being in alignment with these standards demonstrates the quality and relevance of the programs in human resource management at Indiana Wesleyan University’s DeVoe School of Business.”

The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

Because of this new designation, Indiana Wesleyan University is now listed in SHRM’s program directory, which contains a list of all academic programs that align with SHRM’s human resources curriculum guidelines. The following HR programs from IWU are now listed in the directory on SHRM’s website:

  • Bachelor of Science in Management (HR Management Specialization)
  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (HR Management Specialization)
  • Master of Science in Human Resource Management

According to the SHRM website, students from SHRM-aligned programs who meet the eligibility requirements may apply for the SHRM-CP certification exam under a special student eligibility provision, giving graduates an additional advantage as they seek new career opportunities or promotions.
