In the Indiana Chamber’s 2018 employer workforce survey, 80% said finding qualified employees was among their biggest challenges. That number may be even higher today.

Potential solutions are the focus at the inaugural Indiana Workforce Summit, taking place October 24-25 at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. Top topics on tap include workforce hiring, training and retention.

“We’ve heard from business leaders across Indiana that workforce is the No. 1 issue impacting their organizations,” says Jason Bearce, vice president of education and workforce development. “The Indiana Chamber already provides a wide range of opportunities to assist companies through the Institute for Workforce Excellence®, and we will continue to build upon these offerings to better support employers in strengthening their talent pipelines. This new two-day event is another tool we can offer to help Hoosier companies overcome obstacles due to ever-changing workforce challenges.”

Leaders will share insights and information about building a talent pipeline of workers, creating employer-led collaborations to address specific workforce needs, using data to make decisions about training and hiring, and developing training programs that allow people to learn new skills while gaining experience on the job.

The summit will include the first release of the results of the Chamber’s 12th annual employer workforce survey.

Other topics include:

  • How the bottom line is impacted by diversity, inclusion and respect
  • Creating community partnerships to develop workforce-ready professionals
  • Overview of promising workforce programs from across Indiana
  • Education partners providing skill development for your workforce
  • Legislative policies and their impact
