(INDIANAPOLIS) -- Upcoming seminars hosted in October by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce will cover safety topics and model employee policies.Â
- Safety Leadership Principles, October 5-6, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Presented by The Safety Firm with speaker Bobbi Samples, this two-day workshop will offer attendees the chance to gain ideas and learn how to develop key performance indicators to measure and manage a safety program effectively. Beyond just the basics of safety, the workshop will help organizations with the elements of a safety program that affect the bottom line, improve safety performance and expand employees' personal leadership skills. The seminar is worth two credits toward the completion of the Indiana Chamber's Safety Compliance Specialist Certificate program. Cost is $429 or $399 with the Indiana Chamber member discount.
- Model Employee Policies Workshop, October 13, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Instituting sound legal employee policies can prevent your company from becoming the target of a workplace lawsuit. This seminar is presented by Bose McKinney & Evans LLP and will offer updates on legal considerations and court cases, possible policy subjects to consider in an employee handbook, basic employment policies, non-discrimination policies, attendance, compensation, benefits policies and more. New to the seminar this year: modified FMLA and ADA policies, as well as expansion of the "bring your gun to work" bill signed into law in 2010. The seminar is worth one credit toward the completion of the Indiana Chamber's Human Resource Specialist Certificate program. Cost is $329; Indiana Chamber member-discount price is $299. Companies sending three people may send a fourth for free.
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER Course, October 17-21, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. This five-day course, presented by Astbury Environmental Engineering, will satisfy the 40 hours of initial training for site workers as required for operations conducted within the scope of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration HAZWOPER standard.
