(INDIANAPOLIS) -- NCAA President Mark Emmert takes center court May 17th as the featured speaker at the Economic Club of Indiana monthly luncheon. The event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.
Emmert, much like his predecessor Myles Brand, has a strong history of educational leadership and success. As president at the University of Washington (his alma mater), Emmert increased the institution's research funding to over $1 billion a year. He is also credited with expanding the university's reach through satellite campuses and by enhancing its presence in China.
Emmert, who assumed leadership of the NCAA in November 2010, has been known throughout his career for meeting challenges head-on. Prior to his first day on the new job, he signaled his desire to modify the controversial "one and done" rule to ensure top basketball athletes remain students for more than one year before entering the NBA.
