(INDIANAPOLIS) — The old adage is that if something can go wrong, it will go wrong. But everyday heroes – safety and health professionals in a variety of industries and organizations – work to ensure Hoosier workplaces are safe and compliant, and minimize the potential for disaster. The Indiana Chamber says one way Hoosier organizations can equip their team with successful strategies is by attending the 2017 Indiana Safety and Health Conference & Expo on Feb. 28 - March 2 at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.

Presented with the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers and INSafe Indiana, the event is one of the largest safety conferences in the Midwest.

The Indiana Safety and Health Conference & Expo, sponsored by Gibson, features over 70 breakout sessions and several pre-conference workshops covering a wide range of safety and health topics. It also offers continuing education credit from a number of accrediting organizations.

The scheduled keynote presentations are by:
• Richard Hawk (opening general session: March 1): author and singer-songwriter with over 30 years of experience in safety and health fields, he has spoken to hundreds of organizations with ideas to make safety fun;
• Captain Larry Brudnicki (morning general session: March 2): retired Coast Guard captain with a storied 30-year career; he was commanding officer of a Coast Guard ship and crew that performed dramatic rescues during The Perfect Storm of 1991, serving as inspiration for the book and blockbuster movie of the same name, The Perfect Storm; and
• Mark Briggs, CSP (Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards luncheon: March 2): co-founder of Safety Management Resources Corporation

Brudnicki will give his account of The Perfect Storm in his address – “Leadership Secrets from the Perfect Storm: 7 Steps to Making the Right Decision Every Time” – and help health and safety professionals draw parallels to their own workplaces and situations.

“Everyone will find themselves sooner or later in a situation they can’t control and will have to make difficult decisions and may not like any of the options,” he says. “You won’t be successful unless you’re working as a team. It doesn’t matter what your job is – you’ll face that in your life.”

A special highlight is the Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards, which will honor organizations that have made safety and health a priority.

Cost for the three-day conference and expo is $499. Other registration options – including group discounts – are available. For more information, go to www.insafetyconf.com.
