The Supreme Court has ruled and the election is over - health care reform appears to be here to stay. Employers should be taking steps now to prepare for the employer responsibility requirements under health care reform that become effective January 1, 2014. Beginning in 2014, an employer who has more than fifty employees may be required to pay a penalty if it does not offer health coverage to some or all of its full-time employees and their dependents. Penalties can even apply to employers that do offer health coverage if the coverage is either not adequate or is unaffordable. Most employers will need to act now in order to be in a position to comply with these new rules in 2014.
