"The Indiana Chamber applauds Congress for coming together in bipartisan fashion to craft an extension of existing funding authority and several significant reforms to federal transportation programs through 2014. A critical deadline was met and important investments to our national transportation infrastructure will be made and construction industry jobs created.
"However, the bill falls short by not addressing long-term planning and strategic analysis of our country's future needs across multiple modes of transportation. Despite this, the bill approved today is a good foundation for future reform.
"We also commend Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN, 8th District) for his service as a conferee on the bill and his effective lobbying of colleagues to ensure that this bill was a winner for Indiana. The final package was stripped of onerous provisions that would have seen Indiana receive only 92 cents of every transportation dollar Hoosiers send to Washington, as well as penalize Indiana for its innovative Major Moves program. Due to Rep. Bucshon's efforts, Indiana will realize 97 cents on the dollar, improving its long-standing status as a 'donor state.' We appreciate his leadership and tenacity."
